Venomancer Skills

Author: Dons

Introduction

The venomancer has both physical attack skills and magic casting skills, making her a versatile character to play. The venomancer skill tree is shown below:

Human Form

Venomous Scarab: This is considered the spammable grinding skill. It is quick casting with a short cooldown.

  • Learned at: Innate
  • Maxed at: Level 45
  • Opinion: Max ASAP. Useful in macros as a separating skill, due to short cooldown.

Ironwood Scarab: This skill causes an armor break debuff on the opponent (40% reduced phys. def when maxed) and hits for 300% magic attack. At higher levels this becomes a serious spike in damage.

  • Learned at: Level 9
  • Maxed at: Level 54
  • Opinion: Max ASAP. Will likely use it at least once on everything you attempt to kill.

Blazing Scarab: Causes fire damage over time (DoT)

  • Learned at: Level 19
  • Maxed at: Level 64
  • Opinion: Useful for extra damage on bosses, not so useful for grinding (monster dead before DoT completes). Can leave at level 1 with no ill-effect. Level up later when you have spare spirit points (sp).

Frost Scarab: (Requires one spark) Has a low chance to freeze the opponent.

  • Learned at: Level 29
  • Maxed at: Level 74
  • Opinion: Level 1 only, to unlock following skill. Really quite useless.

Noxious Gas: Slow casting AoE spell. Deals very high damage (hits for 200% magic attack) and does wood DoT.

  • Learned at: Level 39
  • Maxed at: Level 75
  • Opinion: Max it when you have the spare sp. More useful at higher levels, when undertaking more group activities (RB, FC, zhen etc).

Lucky Scarab: Quick casting skill with a chance to stun the opponent. Very useful as an interrupt.

  • Learned at: Level 49
  • Maxed at: Level 85
  • Opinion: Max ASAP. This is a good stunning skill. Can buy time when in a sticky situation.

Parasitic Nova: (Requires two sparks). Long cast time, but has a useful stun (seal + paralyze).

  • Learned at: Level 59
  • Maxed at: Level 86
  • Opinion: Max it when you have the spare sp (and cash! This skill is horrendously expensive to level!). More useful at higher levels, when undertaking more group activities (RB, FC, zhen etc).

Myriad Rainbow: Single target skill that has a chance to affect the target with a variety of ailments:
Bleed: 4,500 damage over time
Poison: 4,500 wood damage over time
Armor break: Physical defence reduced by 100%
Mind break: Magical defence reduced by 100%
Lasts for 9 seconds.

  • Learned at: Level 79
  • Maxed at: Level 79
  • Opinion: Low chance to hit target with anything good. High mana cost. Not worth the money/skill points to learn it.

Fox Form

Purge: Removes all buffs from the target. Cool down reduced with increasing levels.

  • Learned at: Level 13
  • Maxed at: Level 58
  • Opinion: Max it at later levels (when you have spare sp/cash). Useful in PvP and in some instances (TT2-3 ape/Bel!)

Amplify Damage: Debuffs target to suffer more damage.

  • Learned at: Level 23
  • Maxed at: Level 68
  • Opinion: Max ASAP. Used on all bosses. Considered one of the priority jobs of a venomancer in group situations.

Soul Degeneration: Reduces oponents HP/MP regeneration rate

  • Learned at: Level 33
  • Maxed at: Level 69
  • Opinion: Leave at level 1. Possibly useful in PvP? Not found a use for it otherwise (although a barb once asked if I had the sage version… Perhaps it becomes useful later??).

Crush Vigor: Target loses 8 chi everytime it is hit.

  • Learned at: Level 43
  • Maxed at: Level 43
  • Opinion: Probably useful in PvP? No harm in getting it if you have spare sp. Not a priority.

Fox Wallop: Delivers physical attack and reduces oponents channelling speed

  • Learned at: Level 9
  • Maxed at: Level 54
  • Opinion: Leave it at level 1. Slow casting, chi consuming. Sounds useful against caster classes, but is inferior to just physical attack spamming. Robe mages usually die in enough normal hits that there's really no point wasting time slowing down their casting time.

Befudding Mist: Does physical damage and reduces oponent's accuracy.

  • Learned at: Level 19
  • Maxed at: Level 64
  • Opinion: Max if aiming to PvP. Very useful against low Dex classes (barbs!) that have low accuracy to begin with.

Stunning Blow: (Requires one spark) Deals physical damage with a chance to paralyse the oponent (can attack but cannot move).

  • Learned at: Level 29
  • Maxed at: Level 74
  • Opinion: Max over time. Useful in PvP situations to pin the oponent down. Ranged classes remain close, and melee classes are made to stay put while you put some distance between you to use magic attacks.

Leech: Physical attack with chance to steal HP from oponent.

  • Learned at: Level 39
  • Maxed at: Level 79
  • Opinion: Max ASAP. High chance (80%) to recover HP. Can be a life saver.

Consume Spirit: Lose some HP (~1%) to recover MP.

  • Learned at: Level 49
  • Maxed at: Level 85
  • Opinion: Leave at level 1. MP recovery is too small to be worth worrying about.

Malefic Crush: (Requires two sparks) Physical damage + mana drain

  • Learned at: Level 59
  • Maxed at: Level 86
  • Opinion: Don't level/leave at level 1. High chi usage with little return. Possibly useful in PvP against classes with low MP (archers/barb/BM)?
  • Myriad Rainbow (Foxform): AoE skill that has a chance to affect the target with a variety of ailments:

Bleed: 4,500 damage over time
Poison: 4,500 wood damage over time
Armor break: Physical defence reduced by 100%
Mind break: Magical defence reduced by 100%
Lasts for 9 seconds.

  • Learned at: Level 79
  • Maxed at: Level 79
  • Opinion: Can be useful in FC/RB runs, but the chance of getting something other than poison (or nothing) seems very low. Also, high mana cost. Get it if you can afford to.

Pet Skills

xm8ub7.png

Pet Heal: Heals your (or another's) pet.

  • Learned at: Level 3
  • Maxed at: Level 93
  • Opinion: Keep it maxed for your level. The stronger your heal, the more your pet has a chance of tanking successfully.
24fe8sp.png

Pet Revive: Revives a dead pet

  • Learned at: Level 3
  • Maxed at: Level 93
  • Opinion: Increased levels reduce the channelling time. Not necessary to level past 1.
iw6xd1.png

Pet Tame: Tames a pet so that you can use it for battle.

  • Learned at: Level 7
  • Maxed at: Level 97
  • Opinion: Unless you intend to catch rare pets for a living, leave this at level 1. The remaining HP that a pet has appears to have more influence than tame level.

Buffs/Debuffs

Soul Transfusion: Self buff. Swaps MP/HP levels (in terms of %, rather than value)

  • Learned at: Level 29
  • Maxed at: Level 29
  • Opinion: Learn it, learn when to use it effectively. Can switch HP/MP values in a tight spot to prevent death. If grinding and mana depletes, use natures grace -> soul transfusion -> metabolic boost to refill without using any pots. Awesome skill!
  • 25tzxgl.png

Metabolic Boost: Self buff. Increases HP value.

  • Learned at: Level 26
  • Maxed at: Level 71
  • Opinion: Keep it maxed. Handy skill to have.
1zbxy8j.png

Natures Grace: Self buff. Increases MP value.

  • Learned at: 36
  • Maxed at: 72
  • Opinion: Keep it maxed. Handy skill to have.

Lending Hand: Transfer one spark to the target.

  • Learned at: Level 46
  • Maxed at: Level 46
  • Opinion: Get it ASAP. A very important skill for a veno to have. Transfer sparks to the tank in a party situation, or a cleric that is BBing, or one of the better DDers in the party. A well placed spark transfer can prevent a party wipe.

Summer Sprint: Self buff. Increases run speed for 10 minutes.

  • Learned at: Level 9
  • Maxed at: Level 59
  • Opinion: Level it. Increased speed = decreased frustration.

Fox Form: Self buff. Transform into a fox. Grants increased physical defence and accuracy and enables you to use fox form skills.

  • Learned at: Level 9
  • Maxed at: Level 59
  • Opinion: Learn it and level it when you can afford to. As a mage skill tree user, it is useful for amp damage and helping you stay alive against phys atk mobs.
z8get.png

Bramble Guard: Reflects a % of melee damage done to the target back at the attacker.

  • Learned at: Level 16
  • Maxed at: Level 59
  • Opinion: Keep this maxed. Cast on the tank(s) in group situations. Can buff solo grinders too. Be careful who you buff with this, as it makes it more difficult for a buffed person to lose aggro if they get it. Don't ever buff clerics in group situations.
  • 2ailmx0.png

Bramble Hood: Uses two sparks. Decrease damage taken by 75% and reflect 200% of damage dealt for 15 seconds.

  • Learned at: Level 59
  • Maxed at: Level 59
  • Opinion: Learn it when you can. Can be useful when used in the right situation. Useful in PvP.

Melee Mastery: Passive skill. Increases physical damage while in fox form.

  • Learned at: Level 19
  • Maxed at: Level 64
  • Opinion: Keep maxed if you use fox form a lot. Otherwise, aim to max it eventually. Fox form can be a lot of fun, so you'll probably find it useful.

Wood Mastery: Passive skill. Increases wood damage. As many venomancer skills are based on wood damage, this increases the damage of most skills.

  • Learned at: Level 29
  • Maxed at: Level 74
  • Opinion: Keep maxed. More damage is more damage. Useful.

Feral Concentration: Makes caster invincible but leaves them stunned for a short period

  • Learned at: Level 79
  • Maxed at: Level 79
  • Opinion: Get it. Can save your ass when a pull goes wrong (tank doesn't pick it up quickly etc.).

Arcane Antinomy: Deals damage to target based on max MP value of caster. Stuns target (?)

  • Learned at: Level 100
  • Maxed at: Level 100
  • Opinion: None formed yet

Fossilized Curse: Deals damage to target based on max HP value of caster. Reduces target's attack but increases its defence.

  • Learned at: Level 100
  • Maxed at: Level 100
  • Opinion: None formed yet

Venomancer Sage vs Demon

Depending on your playing style, you need to choose which path is right for you. Once you have chosen to become either sage or demon, you cannot undo this choice so make sure you make the right choice! The linked page details sage and demon skills.
